Frequently Asked Questions
What is a crypto airdrop?
A crypto airdrop is essentially free money. The word ‘airdrop’ comes from the real-world term popularised during World War 2, which was used to describe the act of an aircraft dropping supplies to otherwise inaccessible troops. Crypto airdrops are similar, except instead of receiving ammunition, food, or water, you will receive cryptocurrency coins or tokens. You can click here to learn more about the inner workings of cryptocurrency airdrops.
Why are crypto airdrops free?
At their core, airdrops are a form of marketing. Think of it this way: When a new cryptocurrency is created, the developers will understandably want to get the word out. Traditionally, they would have to spend hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars on advertising. Now, they can just host an airdrop. Thousands of users get free crypto coins or tokens, and the developers now have an army of users talking about their project. It’s a win-win. How do I enter crypto airdrops?
Are you wondering how to enter airdrops? It can be a little bit confusing at first, and some airdrops can be a real pain in the ass to participate in. The average airdrop, however, is quite straightforward, and will (generally) only require your Ethereum wallet address and your email address. On the other hand, some crypto airdrops are much more difficult to participate in, and will require you to submit more information before you qualify. Learn all about the various cryptocurrency airdrop requirements by clicking here to read our guide on the subject.
Are these crypto airdrops safe?
While we can’t promise that every single airdrop listed on our website is legitimate, we do our best to ensure that scams and fake crypto airdrops are kept as far away from our users as possible. We strongly recommend that you do your own research before giving anyone your personal information. To further reduce the risk of being hacked or scammed, we also recommend creating a new Ethereum address, a new email address, and a unique password for airdrops.
How long until I receive the airdrop?
All airdrops are different. Some airdrops won’t send you any tokens until their ICO has finished. Other airdrops will send you the tokens immediately after you submit the airdrop form. And, sadly, some airdrops may never actually send you the tokens you were promised. We do our best to provide as much information as possible, but some airdrops simply don’t tell us exactly when the tokens will be distributed.
How do you estimate an airdrop’s value?
Our main way of estimating the value of an airdrop is by looking at the number of tokens received per person (R), looking at the total supply of the tokens (S), and making the assumption that the project will attain a market-cap of 50 million U.S. dollars (M). Then we simply run the calculations: Estimated Value = (R / S) * M.
For example, if an airdrop distributed 1,000 tokens per person with a maximum supply of 5 billion, the airdrop would have an estimated value of (1,000 / 5,000,000,000) * 50,000,000 = $10 USD. However, in some cases we will assume a lower or a higher market-cap based on how well we think the project will perform.
How do I keep my crypto safe?
With so many scams, hacks, and frauds going on in the crypto world, it can be a little bit scary when trying to keep the crypto you’ve received from airdrops safe. The best way to keep your airdropped crypto safe is by using a hardware wallet, and in our opinion, the best hardware wallet on the market is the Ledger Nano S. It’s relatively cheap, supports hundreds of cryptocurrencies , and is virtually foolproof. You can click here to discover more about keeping your crypto airdrops safe.
Where can I trade my crypto airdrops?
Once you’ve received a few airdrops, you’re probably going to want to trade them for some other, more established cryptocurrencies. In our experience, the best places to do this are Binance and Kucoin. Both of these exchanges have high liquidity and list a vast number of cryptocurrencies (meaning there’s a good chance you’ll be able to trade your airdrops immediately), so it’s a good idea to have a verified account. How do I list my airdrop on your site?
If you’re hosting an airdrop, we’d love to list it. There are two ways to have your airdrop listed on Airdrop Scouter: As a free submission, or as a featured submission. The submission process is pretty much the same with either choice.
As a free submission, your airdrop will be listed on Airdrop Scouter free of charge. Head on over to our free airdrop submission page and fill out the airdrop submission form. We’ll take a look at your airdrop, your website, your whitepaper, etc, and if everything seems legitimate, we’ll list your crypto airdrop as soon as possible.
As a featured submission, your airdrop will be listed in the “Featured Crypto Airdrops” section at the top of the website for a fee. Head on over to our featured airdrop submission page and fill out the airdrop submission form. We’ll take a look at your airdrop, your website, your whitepaper, etc, and if everything seems legitimate, we’ll send you an email to discuss the listing process further.
Where can I report an airdrop?
Have we listed a fake airdrop? Have we listed a scam airdrop? Sometimes fraudulent airdrops slip through the cracks, and sometimes an airdrop project may appear legitimate at first and then flip the table later on. If you think one of the airdrops that we’ve listed are fake, are a scam, or you just think something’s not quite right, let us know on the report airdrop page.
